To make things a little easier in these economic times, the Federal government announced a 2009 Home Renovation Tax Credit program. Qualifying renovations and home improvement projects up to $10,000 can be claimed at tax season, providing a possible refund of up to $1,350.

The Ontario Government is also providing a retail tax exemption on any Energy Star rated home appliances (such as dishwashers, fridges, and freezers) through to September 2009. Some municipalities are also offering rebates when upgrading to water saving toilets and appliances (contact you local municipality to check the amounts, and deadlines for purchase).
